My family and I have been attending American Karate Studios for almost 8 months now, and I cannot recommend it enough. We initially wanted extra help instilling confidence in our kids, especially in standing their ground with their decision-making, and to establish a sense of calmness and focus.
Within the first two months, we saw a huge difference in our kids' demeanor, and they are constantly practicing what they've learned in class and have even been able to lead the class, which has been a major confidence booster.
While it's true that American Karate Studios is on the expensive side, it is a commitment that will last a lifetime (and this is coming from someone who didn’t (but wished) take karate lessons as a kid).
Watching each instructor work with the kids, their sense of firmness but also patience is amazing to see. It's impressive to see how they can redirect the focus and gain control so quickly of even the littlest students.
The way the instructors interact with the kids is a testament to their training and dedication to the students. They create a positive, encouraging environment that fosters growth and learning. I have been impressed by their ability to strike the right balance between firmness and patience, which is essential when working with children.
One of the things that sets American Karate Studios apart is their emphasis on the family dynamic. They mandate that parents are involved instead of just dropping off your kid and leaving, which reinforces the importance of being a present parent.
This approach has been extremely beneficial for our family, and we've even utilized the studio for our daughter's birthday, which was amazing. They provided everything, and it was all free!
Classes were blended 3 yo up to 12 yo and instructor John didn't seem to have much patience for the littles- his instruction to the large mixed aged group was not age appropriate for all and targeted the older experienced students. His expectation for a first time 3 yo student to execute a sidekick without demonstration is absurd. Also multi- step instructions to a toddler
that you give to bigger kids isn't going to be effective. Toddlers are tolerated but not necessarily welcomed/ preferred at this school. Children don't show up to their first day of karate class instantly knowing what to do- they need instruction and proper demonstration. We found a much better studio where classes are divided by age and they actually have a structured program to teach skills.
Just had my daughter's birthday here, and I couldn't recommend it enough. Gave the kids a free mini-lesson and had games. Afterwards we went to the back party room that was perfectly decorated. Plenty of space for the kids to eat and run around. Our host John was super helpful and friendly. Definitely doing this again.
Classes are very organized, the instructors work hard to make sure everyone is engaged and learning. They are wonderful with the kids, and you can tell all the kids enjoy their instruction! I am very happy I signed my kids up, their confidence has sky rocketed! I love the flexible classes and no set schedule, which makes it easier for us to attend when life happens.
Highly recommend American Karate Studios!!!
Excellent community here. Mr John is amazing. Great to talk to, and very engaged with the students My son has thrived here. It is everything you want a karate school to be and more! Along with the physical activity, they instill a great sense of service, belonging and belief in self. Building character is so important in these times... American Karate Studios is a great way to reinforce the wonderful values that we try every day to teach our children.
